Voice ReGen – Frequently Asked Questions

  • Voice ReGen cleans up, enhances, restores, and regenerates your voice recordings whether it’s a podcast, video, TikTok, voiceover, or if you’re stuck in the “I recorded this in a noisy kitchen and it sounds horrible” situation.

It is designed for spoken word and dialogue only. It is not intended for singing or music processing.

We support audio and video files in most common formats:

Audio formats: mp3, wav, m4a, aiff (Safari only), and webm

Video formats: mp4, mov, webm, and m4a/m4b (with video)
NOTE: AVI mostly work in Voice ReGen, but you won’t get a play preview. Browsers don’t like avi files much.

If you can record it, we can probably clean it. We process the audio track only – your video won't be visually altered.

Recording on iPhone 16 or newer: iPhone 16 and later default to Spatial Audio when recording video, which creates multiple audio channels we can't process. Before uploading, go to Settings > Camera > Record Sound and change from Spatial Audio to either Stereo or Mono. If you don't change this setting, we won't be able to find any audio tracks in your file.

    File size limits:

    • Free and Creator plans: up to 1.5GB
    • Pro plan: up to 1.5GB

    Duration limits:

    • All tiers: up to 90 minutes per file

    What we need:

    • Clear spoken word or dialogue throughout the file
    • Single audio track (mono or stereo)
    • No multi-channel or surround audio
    • No multi-track files (we can't separate individual audio streams)
  • Most files are processed in under a minute. Long videos may take a bit more time, but we simply notify you when they are ready.

  • Voice ReGen is built for spoken word and dialogue only. SO NO SINGING.

    • Singing will either fail or sound incorrect. Voice ReGen is designed for DIALOGUE.
    • Music-only files will fail
    • Voice buried under music will fail

This is not a music tool.

  • There are recordings that are truly beyond saving, even we have limits, I’m afraid.

That said, we will work wonders on most files including echo-filled rooms, fan hum, distant mics, barking dogs, and crunchy Zoom calls.

  • Try this:

Upload the original file, particularly if you used a screen recorder or editor beforehand.
Make sure your voice is not buried in music or sound effects.
Make sure your file contains clear spoken dialogue.

  • Yes. Your files are processed securely and deleted after 14 days unless you choose to save them. Nothing is used for training or analysis without your permission. We do not claim any ownership of your files and we do not use them for training.

We do make sure you are reminded constantly about the 14 day rule. It is permanently written at the top of your user dashboard between your latest file and the Process button.

  • Maybe. Most people do not actually dislike their voice – they dislike how it was recorded. Voice ReGen helps you hear the version of your voice that sounds more like how others hear you. One of our goals is to help you hear yourself with more confidence.

Recording and Teleprompter

  • Yes! You can record audio or video directly from the Record page. And you can record audio from ReGen on your mobile phone too, WITH the teleprompter!!!

    For audio:

    • Select your microphone
    • Type or paste your script into the teleprompter
    • Set your scroll speed
    • Press record, and the teleprompter will start scrolling automatically
    • If you pause recording, the teleprompter pauses with it

    For video:

    • Select your camera and microphone
    • Add your script to the teleprompter
    • You can pop out the teleprompter and place it anywhere, including on a separate screen
    • A picture-in-picture preview of your camera is available while recording
  • After recording, you can preview your take. When you press save and confirm, we automatically download a backup copy of your original recording to your browser’s default downloads folder.

Troubleshooting

  • Voice ReGen only works on clear spoken word and dialogue.

    Your file will fail if:

    • There is no spoken voice at all
    • The content is singing or music-focused
    • The voice is buried under music or sound effects.
    • The dialogue cannot be understood by a human listener
    • The recording is too distorted, corrupted, or degraded

    Important:

    • This is not stem separation and not a music tool.
    • It does not isolate sung or spoken vocals from music.
    • It is designed specifically for dialogue restoration.
  • Try this:

    • Upload the original file, not one that has been exported multiple times
    • Make sure your recording has clear spoken dialogue
    • Avoid background music that competes with the voice
    • Use a recording where the voice is at least understandable to the human ear

Credits, Credit Packs, and Plans

  • Each credit is measured in processing minutes. For example, a 3-minute file uses 3 credits. When you upload a file, we calculate its length and subtract that amount from your available balance.

Credits are based on processed duration, not file size or format.

    Each account type works differently:

    • Free account: 5 minutes free per month. These reset every month.
    • Creator: Includes 300 processing minutes per month.
    • Pro: Includes 800 processing minutes per month.
    • All account types can purchase additional credit packs at any time.

Credits remain available as long as you’re subscribed and remain in your account for 12 months after you unsubscribe.

  • Credits are used in full-minute increments. Your file’s duration is always rounded up to the next full minute. For example, a 45-second clip counts as one minute = one credit; an 85-second clip counts as two minutes = two credits; and so on.

  • Yes. All account types can purchase additional credit packs at any time.

Top-up packs let you add more minutes instantly without upgrading your plan.
If you process audio regularly, a Creator or Pro subscription may provide better value than our free account and just purchasing credit packs. See our credit packs here.

  • You will receive a message letting you know that you do not have enough processing minutes.

    You can then:

    • Buy a credit pack and continue immediately.
    • Choose a Creator or Pro subscription if you use Voice ReGen regularly as it will work out more affordable than buying credit packs sometimes.
    • If you are already subscribed, buy additional credits or wait until your included monthly minutes renew.
  • Yes, but we have a free subscription that allows you to purchase credit packs when you need them (on top of your five free minutes renewed monthly), no recurring payments required.

Creator and Pro subscriptions are available for people who use Voice ReGen regularly and want included monthly processing minutes at a better rate.

  • All account types include the same Voice ReGen features. The difference is how you pay and how many processing minutes are included.

    • If you’re on a free account you buy credits whenever you need them, with no subscription.
    • Creator includes 300 processing minutes each month.
    • Pro includes 800 processing minutes each month.
  • Yes. Creator and Pro subscribers can purchase additional credit packs whenever they use all of their included monthly minutes or need additional processing capacity.

  • Your account automatically returns to being a free one. You can continue using Voice ReGen by purchasing credits whenever you need them.

Your existing projects and any separately purchased credit balance remain attached to your account.

  • Only one subscription per account is available at this time. If you have a team, you can set up an account for each member wishing to use Voice ReGen.

Account, Ownership, and Creative Rights

  • No. Waves Creative Access is a subscription for audio plugins. Voice ReGen is a separate online service focused on audio cleanup and enhancement for content creators. It is not included with plugin subscriptions.

  • Yes. You can use ReGen for client work, ads, films, sponsored content, game audio, or other commercial projects.

  • No. We do not collect personal system data. We may track general usage (like file length or processing time) anonymously to help improve performance and stability.

Setup and Technical Info

  • Yes. You can log in from multiple computers, but only one active session is supported at a time.

  • Not currently. ReGen runs on our servers, so you need an internet connection to upload and process files.

  • Your processed files are saved in your user dashboard that you see when logged in.
You can download your clean files directly after processing. Processed file all have “Processed” as their status in the dashboard.

We recommend downloading and backing them up, as temporary storage is limited. After 14 days on our server and in your account dashboard, old files will be removed.

Voice ReGen Error Code FAQs

  • What does this mean? Your file is damaged or incomplete. It can't be processed because the data is broken.

    What do I do?

    • Re-export or re-download the original file
    • Don't upload files that have been partially downloaded or interrupted
    • Try downloading from the source again if you got it from somewhere else
    • If the original file is corrupted, re-record or re-render it
  • What does this mean? Your file doesn't have any audio in it. At least not that we can find. Maybe it's video-only, or the file is corrupted. Or it's a new kind of multitrack we can't identify.

    What do I do?

    • If it's a video file, try extracting the audio first then uploading just the audio
    • Make sure you uploaded a file with audio, not just video
    • Check the file isn't corrupted by opening it in a media player like QuickTime, VLC or similar
    • Try re-exporting and uploading again
  • What does this mean? Your file doesn't have enough content. ReGen needs at least a few seconds duration of audio to work with.

    What do I do?

    • Make sure your file is at least a few seconds long
    • If all your clips are short, combine multiple clips into one file
  • What does this mean? Your file took too long to process and the request timed out. This usually happens with very long files combined with slow internet connections and slow upload speeds.

    What do I do?

    • Try uploading the file again
    • If your file is longer than your plan allows, break it into smaller chunks
    • Check your internet connection is stable, especially your upload speed as that's what matters for uploading files
    • Try during off-peak hours (fewer users = faster speeds)
  • What does this mean? Your file didn't pass our validation checks, but the specific reason isn't clear even to us. Usually it's a combination of issues.

    What do I do?

    • Check that your file is a supported format (check elsewhere in this FAQ page)
    • Make sure it has clear spoken dialogue
    • Try re-exporting the file fresh and uploading again
    • If it still fails, contact support with the file details
  • What does this mean? ReGen couldn't download your file to process it. Usually a connection issue.

    What do I do?

    • Check your internet connection
    • Try uploading the file again
    • Make sure the file isn't corrupted
    • Try a different file to see if the problem is specific to that one
  • What does this mean? It means as far as our system is concerned you’ve already processed that file, and in the last 14 days, as it’s already elsewhere in your dashboard. If you want to process it again, change the name of it, or delete the existing processed file that is elsewhere in your garage.
