Update to the Latest Waves Version

Last updated on: 10/19/2020 4:40:11 AM

This guide offers precise instructions on how to install, update, or activate your Waves products and licenses. Learn how to check your current license versions, activation status, and Waves Update Plan coverage.
You can update your Waves products to the latest version, as long as they are covered by the Waves Update Plan.
If your products are not currently covered, you can renew your coverage here.
You can also get the latest version by upgrading to a more comprehensive Waves bundle.
All new purchases and upgrades of Waves plugins and bundles include one full year of the Waves Update Plan.

A Guide to Waves Versions and Updates

Please note: Multiple Waves software versions can run on the same system, as long as two versions of the same plugin—for example V11 and V12—are not installed simultaneously.

Each plugin should be installed as one version only. For example, you can install V12 of the J37 Tape plugin and V11 of the CLA-2A plugin on the same computer. However, you should not install V12 of J37 Tape and V11 of J37 Tape on the same computer.
  • Check which software version is most suitable for your system and DAW.
  • For more notes about using V9 licenses and software, see below.
First, log in to your Waves account, if you are not already logged in. To see your Waves licenses, go to the My Products page, page displays your bundle and plugin licenses, arranged by their license versions.
Below are three license version scenarios. Each includes several secondary scenarios, such as activating a plugin or reviewing your Waves Update Plan status.

Pick your scenario from the list of questions below to view the instructions you need.

All my licenses are Version 12.x.

Some of my licenses are Version 12.x and some are 9.x, 10.x, or 11.x.

All my licenses are for versions earlier than V12.

Updates for existing software versions:
If Updates Available appears at the top of the screen, free software updates are available for your existing software version.
This will only update internal sub-versions, meaning—for example—a software update from V12.0.2 to V12.0.3 and not a primary version update from V11 to V12.
  • Click the Updates Available button. All products for which updates are available will be selected and shown in the list on the right.
  • When ready, click Update
  • All items in the products list for which updates are available will be chosen and listed on the right.
Software updates are an all-or-nothing proposition: choose any product ready for update and all ‘update-ready’ products will be selected! Review the list in the inspector on the right./li>
  • If any product's license is activated but not installed, select it.
  • Click Update or Install and Update. All Waves products already on your computer will be installed. An update only affects your software, not the license.
