How to Use the OVox Vocoder on Instruments in REAPER
Apr 16, 2020
Learn how to set up and use the Waves OVox Vocal ReSynthesis vocoder plugin on other instruments in REAPER, to achieve effects such as a Guitar Vocoder, Bass Vocoder and more.
Create an audio track and feed it with your voice signal (this will be your Modulator)
Search for OVox in your insert plugins list and open it on the track.
Create another track and record or import your instrument signal (this will be your Carrier).
Create a new send in the Carrier track just created, and select the Modulator channel. When you configure the send, make sure to select a higher value than the number of channels in your track. For example: 3 or higher. Make sure your send is set to Pre-Fader, so you can mute it.
In OVox, click on the in/out options, and select 3 (or the value set above) as your ‘Mono Aux In’.
In OVox, set ‘Synth Source’ to ‘Sidechain’.
Play audio from both tracks simultaneously to achieve vocal synthesis / vocoder effects. If needed, use the Drive control to add more harmonics to the carrier and get more intelligible results.
