How to Use the OVox Vocoder on Instruments in Logic Pro X

Learn how to set up and use the Waves OVox vocal synthesis / vocoder plugin on other instruments in Logic Pro X and achieve effects such as a Guitar Vocoder, Bass Vocoder and more.

  1. Create a ‘New Software Instrument Track.’
    Create a new audio track and feed it with your voice signal
  2. Search for OVox in the Instrument slot plugin list, and open it on the Software Instrument Track. Note that Logic may have placed a different instrument as a default setting.

    You will find OVox under the ‘AU MIDI-controlled Effects’ category.
  3. Create another track (audio or instrument, depending on your setup), and feed it with your instrument (this will be your carrier).
  4. In the upper-right corner, open the ‘Side Chain’ dropdown menu, and choose the channel you’ve set to be your carrier.

  5. In OVox, set ‘Synth Source’ to ‘Sidechain.’

  6. Play audio from both tracks simultaneously to achieve vocal synthesis / vocoder effects. If needed, use the Drive control to add more harmonics to the carrier and get more intelligible results.
