How to Set Up Tracks Live for Recording and Playback with eMotion LV1

Sep 22, 2026

Learn how to integrate Tracks Live with eMotion LV1 for multitrack recording, playback and virtual soundcheck, including SoundGrid routing, session sync, scene markers and setup verification.

Tracks Live can integrate with eMotion LV1 to synchronize track order, channel names, colors, mono/stereo configuration, and scene creation/recalls with the Tracks Live timeline.

This article covers Online Waves Integration, using Tracks Live on a dedicated recording/playback computer connected to an eMotion LV1 system.

For a successful integration, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Tracks Live runs on a dedicated computer. To verify compatibility, refer to the Tracks Live Support page.
  2. eMotion LV1 V17 or later is installed.
  3. SoundGrid Driver V17 or later is installed on the Tracks Live computer.
  4. The Tracks Live computer is connected by Ethernet to the same local SoundGrid network as LV1.
  5. On the Tracks Live computer, the correct Ethernet adapter should be selected in the SoundGrid Driver Control Panel.
  6. The Tracks Live SoundGrid Driver is assigned in LV1's Inventory.
  7. At least one LV1 channel or I/O source is patched to the inputs of that SoundGrid Driver.
  8. MyRemote is assigned and running in the Controls section of LV1's Inventory.

Set Up the Tracks Live Computer

Connect the Tracks Live computer by Ethernet to the switch used by your SoundGrid system.

Install Tracks Live and the SoundGrid Driver:

  1. Quit any open audio host applications.
  2. Make sure you have a valid Tracks Live license.
  3. Launch Waves Central on the computer you wish to use Tracks Live with, and log in to your Waves account.
  4. Go to Install Products > All Products.
  5. Locate V17 SoundGrid ASIO/Core Audio Rec/PB Driver and select it.
  6. Locate Tracks Live and select it.
  7. Click Install & Activate. error message

  9. Open the SoundGrid Driver Control Panel.
  10. Select the Ethernet adapter connected to the SoundGrid network. For example: error message

Verify Tracks Live Audio Settings

On the Tracks Live computer:

  1. Launch Tracks Live.
  2. Open System Settings > Audio Settings.
  3. Select the Waves SoundGrid Driver as the Audio Device. Note: At this point you may be prompted by macOS to allow permissions (see the section below for instructions)
  4. Make sure the required recording Inputs are switched On.
  5. If you plan to use Tracks Live for playback or virtual soundcheck, make sure the required Outputs are also switched On.
  6. Choose your desired ASIO/Core audio buffer. This buffer determines how much audio the DAW processes at a time. Lower values reduce latency but increase CPU load; higher values improve stability but add latency. When monitoring through the DAW, the buffer applies to both input and output, increasing roundtrip latency. A general recommendation is to set a high buffer value while recording.
  7. Verify the displayed Sample Rate.
Note: The sample rate displayed in Tracks Live is read-only and reflects the rate of the selected audio device. Set the required sample rate on the SoundGrid system/device, then confirm that Tracks Live shows the expected rate. error message Note: If you do not have enough driver channels, you can increase the amount of channels from LV1’s inventory (as explained in the ‘Set Up eMotion LV1’ section below)
  8. Create a new session.

Allow OS Permissions

When prompted, allow Tracks Live and the relevant Waves services to communicate on the local network.

On macOS:

  1. Go to Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. (Only available in macOS Seqouia or later). Make sure Tracks Live is allowed to access the local network. error message error message
  2. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Make sure Tracks Live is allowed to access the microphone/audio input. error message

On Windows:

Allow Tracks Live and the relevant Waves services through Windows Firewall, if prompted.

Important: If local-network or firewall access is denied, Tracks Live may fail to discover LV1 without displaying a clear error inside the application.

Set Up eMotion LV1

  1. Launch eMotion LV1.
  2. Load your desired session.
  3. go to Setup > Inventory.
  4. In the I/O section, assign the SoundGrid Driver running on the Tracks Live computer.
  5. In the Controls section, make sure MyRemote is assigned. error message
  6. Select the amount of desired driver channels: error message
  7. Select your desired driver network buffer. This buffer determines how much audio the SoundGrid Driver buffers when transferring audio between the SoundGrid network and the computer. Lower values reduce latency; higher values improve stability at the cost of additional latency. The displayed value already accounts for the SoundGrid server buffer. error message
  8. Go to the Patch page.
  9. Patch the channels, buses or physical I/O sources you want to record to the corresponding inputs of the Tracks Live SoundGrid Driver. error message

The source you patch to the SoundGrid Driver determines what Tracks Live receives.

  • To capture a raw, unprocessed signal - route channels from I/O's on the SoundGrid network to the recording computer via the Patch > Device-to-Device section (as seen in the above image)
  • To capture a direct-out signal from the mixer (pre or post fader/processing/pan) - route the LV1 channel, bus or output to the recording computer, via the Patch > Output section.

Connect and Sync Tracks Live with eMotion LV1

  1. In Tracks Live, click the W icon in the upper-right corner of Tracks Live to open Waves Integration.
  2. Check Recording Source and confirm that it shows the SoundGrid Driver selected in Audio Settings.
  3. Tracks Live searches for the LV1 mixer associated with that recording driver.
  4. If the mixer does not appear, click Rescan.
  5. Important: The SoundGrid Driver must be assigned in LV1 and at least one input must be patched to it. This patch allows Tracks Live to identify the correct LV1 mixer on the network. Without it, the mixer will not appear in Waves Integration.

  6. Once the mixer is discovered, click Connect. error message Once connected, the LV1 Session Structure Preview shows the LV1 channels routed to the selected recording SoundGrid Driver. Each row shows the channel color and name, mono/stereo format, physical source, and the Tracks Live input it will record to. Review the channel list and select the channels you want to include.
  7. Click Sync Now. error message At this point Tracks Live will create all relevant channels.

Note:

  • Session-structure synchronization is from LV1 to Tracks Live. Sync changes the Tracks Live track structure to match LV1; it does not modify the LV1 session.
  • Sync and Update are always manual. Tracks Live never applies LV1 structural changes automatically.
  • Important: Updating the session can replace the Tracks Live session structure, including audio files. Back up sessions containing important recordings or timeline edits before applying structural changes.

Waves Integration Status

Once synced, the top-right W icon will turn green. error message

The W icon changes its color according to the integration status:

  • Gray: Not Connected
  • Green: Synced
  • Yellow: Update Available
  • Red: Sync required.
Red can also indicate that the recording device was disconnected from LV1.

Start Recording

A synced indication confirms that the session structures match, but it does not by itself confirm that audio is reaching Tracks Live correctly.

  1. Before recording, verify that Tracks Live are receiving the expected inputs.
  2. Click the Global Record Arm button to arm all channels (or use the Auto Arm) error message
  3. Confirm that all required input ports are switched On.
  4. Click Record. error message

Note: You can check the status information in Tracks Live (top left) to verify:

  • Sample Rate – current audio-device rate
  • CPU – current application processor usage
  • HDD – recording-drive usage and remaining storage
  • Rec – estimated remaining recording time This value changes according to available disk space, sample rate and the number of tracks being recorded.
error message

Note: Tracks Live provides two recording modes:

  1. Normal Recording, only tracks that are already record armed are recorded:
    1. Arm the tracks you want to record.
    2. Verify signal on the armed tracks.
    3. Click Record.
  2. Auto Arm Recording – pressing Record automatically arms tracks with valid inputs and starts recording. Auto Arm is not the default recording mode.

To change the record setting, right click on the Record button and choose the relevant mode:

Configure Scene Synchronization

The Waves Integration window includes a Create/Recall Scene option, which links LV1 scene recalls with the Tracks Live timeline.

error message

While Recording

When an LV1 scene is recalled:

  • Tracks Live creates a marker at the current play head position.
  • The marker uses the LV1 scene name.

This records where each LV1 scene change occurred during the performance.

error message

While Stopped

When a corresponding LV1 scene is recalled, Tracks Live can move the play head to the marker with the matching scene name.

During Playback

When Create/Recall Scenes is enabled, Tracks Live recalls the corresponding existing LV1 scene as playback crosses its scene marker.

Keep the following in mind:

  • Tracks Live does not create new scenes in LV1.
  • Jumping to another point on the timeline does not trigger skipped scene markers. A scene is recalled only when playback crosses its marker.
  • Scene synchronization operates independently of Session Structure Sync/Update and does not require an Update Available operation.
  • No MIDI integration is involved. Scene synchronization is handled by Waves Integration over the local network.

To prevent scene recalls from being linked between LV1 and Tracks Live, leave Create/Recall Scene option off.

Set Up Playback and Virtual Soundcheck

After recording, Tracks Live can send the recorded channels back to LV1 individually for playback and virtual soundcheck.

    On the Tracks Live Computer:

  1. Stop recording.
  2. Select Multi Out for virtual soundcheck and discrete returns to LV1. You can open the Audio Settings window to verify that all required output ports are switched On. error message
  3. On the eMotion LV1 mixer:

  4. Create the required playback routing from the Tracks Live SoundGrid Driver to LV1. A common virtual-soundcheck workflow is to patch the Tracks Live Driver outputs to the corresponding Input B channels while keeping the live sources on Input A. error message
  5. Switch the required channels to the playback input bank.

Tip: Configure a Flip Input Bank A/B user key in the U/I Settings to quickly switch between the virtual-soundcheck returns and the live inputs. Once triggered, all relevant channels will change their inputs to Input B, patching the recorded stems into LV1 channels. error message
  6. Place the Tracks Live playhead at the desired position.
  7. Click Play.
  8. Verify audio on the corresponding LV1 channels.

If Create/Recall Scene option is enabled (In the Waves Online Integration window), playing across scene markers can recall the corresponding existing scenes in LV1, allowing the console to follow the scene changes captured during the recording.

Updating Tracks Live After LV1 Changes

If the LV1 recording structure changes after the initial synchronization, Tracks Live displays Update Available.

Changes may include channel names, order, mono/stereo configuration, or recording patch assignments.

To update Tracks Live:

  1. Stop recording.
  2. Open Waves Online Integration.
  3. Review the changed or newly flagged channels.
  4. Click Update Available. error message

The updated LV1 structure is then applied to Tracks Live.

Important: Updating the session can replace the Tracks Live session structure, including audio files. ‘Save As’ the session before applying structural changes.

Offline Waves Integration

Tracks Live can also use Offline Waves Integration to create tracks from an LV1 session file without a live connection. Note that scene markers are not supported in Waves Offline integration.

  1. Go to System Settings > Offline Waves Integration.
  2. Click Browse and select your desired .emo session that you wish to load.
  3. Click Load Session.
  4. Select your desired channels and click on Create Tracks. error message

At this point, Tracks Live will populate the relevant channels.
