Producer and mixer Greg Wells (Adele, OneRepublic) shows how he adds rich analog tone to vocals, instruments and his full mix using his ToneCentric plugin.
For ToneCentric, Greg has drawn on his favorite pieces of analog gear that he uses in his studio, including “healthy vacuum tubes and big transistors wound the right way.”The big thing for Greg when designing this plugin was to make sure that the high end remains crisp and clear: “When you work in the digital domain,” he says, “you’re always missing that lively tube and transistor tone, and I wanted this plugin to add that. Other plugins point in the same direction, but they sometimes make the high end suffer, so in developing ToneCentric, it was important for me to keep things sonically full.”
