How to Set up MyMon App and eMotion LV1

Last updated on: 12/19/2019 6:19:17 AM

Learn how to easily set up the MyMon on-stage monitor mix controller application on iOS and Android devices, sync with the eMotion LV1 mixer and control aux monitor channels with up to sixteen mobile devices. For more information, please refer to the MyMon user guide.

Important notes:

  • Minimum operating system requirement for mobile devices:
    • Android 7 or higher
    • iOS 11 or higher
  • MyMon connections are only supported with eMotion LV1 V11 and up.
  • Use a robust 5Ghz Wi-Fi router, connected via ethernet to the LV1 host computer. Lower bandwidth will introduce graphic lags. Make sure to use a Wireless router and not a Wireless Access Point or Extender which do not provide automatic assignment of IP addresses.
  • The application will display the latency in milliseconds, as the network is discovered.
  • The MyMon network must be a dedicated, stand-alone WIFI network, separate from the SoundGrid network.
  • To ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection, the router should be located as close as possible to the mobile users’ devices, preferably on the stage itself, as a Wi-Fi connection between the FOH and stage may not be reliable.

MyMon Wi-Fi network setup:

Steps 1-6 below are general guidelines for setting up a Wi-Fi network and router for use with MyMon and LV1.
Please refer to your Wi-Fi router’s manual or website for specific steps and settings, as they will vary with different models and manufacturers.

  1. Run a dedicated Ethernet cable from the LV1 host computer (on-stage or FOH) to the on-stage Wi-Fi router.
    • This connection provides control information for the MyMon Wi-Fi network. No audio passes over it.
    • Do not run MyMon over the SoundGrid network.
    • If the host computer does not have a second Ethernet port, you can use a USB-to-Ethernet (or other) adaptor.
  2. Make sure your Wi-Fi router is set to DHCP Mode.
  3. Assign a Wi-Fi network name (also named “SSID”).
  4. Select a wireless security protocol (WPA2, etc.) and set a password.
  5. If your Wi-Fi router supports “Auto Channel Selection”, enable it. This allows the wireless access point to automatically select the wireless channel with the least amount of interference.
  6. Share the Wi-Fi network name and password with all MyMon users, who can then connect their mobile devices to the Wi-Fi network and launch the app.

eMotion LV1 setup:

  1. Launch eMotion LV1 and go to Setup Window > System Inventory Page > Controls column.
  2. Click on an empty control “Add Device” slot. Select MyMon from the menu.
  3. The MyMon icon will appear in the slot. You can open the MyMon control panel by clicking on the Gear button. At this point – no mobile device will appear in the list.
  4. Set up your Aux monitor channels (e.g., Pre, Post, Mono, Stereo) and name them so that they will be easily recognized by the musicians.

MyMon Mobile App:

All musicians who want to remotely control their monitor mix must install the free MyMon app on their mobile devices.

  1. Install the app only from these sources:
    • Android phone/tablet users: search for “MyMon” in Google Play Store.
    • iPhone/iPad users: search for “MyMon” in the App Store.
Any installation issues on mobile devices must be brought up with Android or Apple support.
  2. All MyMon screens are available in Landscape and Portrait modes.
To get the most out of the MyMon app, enable Screen Rotation in the mobile device’s settings.
  3. Launch the MyMon app, it will search the network for available LV1s. Located LV1 hosts are displayed in the Select Mixer list. Select the relevant LV1 system.
If no LV1 hosts are found, the Demo button on the bottom left will activate. The Demo mode lets you browse through MyMon pages and controls, but since there is no network connection, it cannot control the monitor mix.
  4. When a network connection is established, the Select Mix button becomes available.
  5. Touch the Select Mix button to see a list of available monitor mix channels in the current LV1 session.
  6. If you’ve already assigned names to the monitor mixes on the LV1 aux channels, they will be displayed next to the Mon number.
  7. Select the desired mix and click Done. This will open the Faders/Mixer view.
  8. Cancel returns you to the Connections page.
  9. Click the Resume button to return to Mixer view.
  10. Move channel faders to control your personal monitor mix.
